Boss DM-2 Delay

This analog delay pedal is able to produce delay times ranging from 30 to 330 Milliseconds. It’s got three dials with adjustments for Repeat Rate, Intensity, and Echo. This effect draws a lot of current so not all power supplies are able to power up this pedal. The vintage analog DM-2 is a very popular effect and prices are usually very high for a beat up but working pedal.

Version differences 
There are at least 3 different versions of the DM-2. The first version was using the MN3005 BBD. This was soon changed to the low current version of the same circuit called MN3205. It is worth noting that the MN3005 has a SN ratio of 75 dB while the MN3205 is a little more noisy with its 67dB. The MN3205 only produces 0.8% distortion compared to 1% for the MN3005.

The DM-2 can be approximately dated by reading the number on the compander IC NE570N. It should have a 4 digit number giving you the year and month of production in the form YYMM. Note that this is the production date of the integrated chip and not of the pedal but it’s unlikely that the chips were stored for very long before used.

Boss OC-2 Octave

The OC-2 is a basic octaver that can produce a two extra tones in additional to the original tone. The first is one octave below the original tone and the second, two octaves below. The level of each octave’s tone can be adjusted independently. The Oc-2 has always been popular with both guitar players and bass players. To get a steady and reliable sound from the Octave, it is recommended that you keep your action high and that you have absolutely no fret buzz on your guitar. It is also an advantage to use a compressor in front of the OC-2 to limit the dynamic range that the OC-2 has to work with.

The OC-2 had originally a much lighter non-metallic brown color and it was labeled “Octaver” instead of Octave. The name changed early 1984 while the darker shade of brown was introduced about a year later. Production moved to Taiwan, 1989 and was modified for the PSA adapter 1997.

Sometime later in the life of the pedal (it is unclear exactly when) supplies of the BA634 single flip-flop used for IC6 dried up and IC6 was changed to a 4013. All the “Octaver” pedals examined had the BA634.

Therefore the following versions of the OC-2 are potentially in service:

• Octaver
• Octave (dark paint)
• Octave (light paint)
• Taiwan
• PSA (there are examples that indicate the BA634-to-4013 change has definitely occurred by now)

BOSS "GE-7 Equalizer" MADE IN JAPAN , MINT (1989-2010 era pedal was made in Sep, 1989) (SOLD)

With the availability of slimmer slide potentiometers, the GE-7 was released 1981. It’s got the same frequency bands as the GE-6 as well as one additional band at 6.4kHz. There is also a level control that you can use to set the difference of level between on and off mode for the pedal. Each band can be boosted or cut by 15dB. The GE-7 can also be used as a gain booster.

The GE-7 has been in continous production since 1981. A few components, like the TL022 opamps, have been replaced in this time but the original design is still the same. GE-7 production moved from Japan to Taiwan, early 1992. It was modified for the PSA adapter 1997 and has since then been fitted with a silver bottom label.

BOSS "DC-2 Dimension C" JAPAN (SOLD)

Boss DC-2 Dimension C

Dimension C is an analog chorus pedal where you can choose from 4 presets. It is similar to the earlier rack mount effect, Roland SDD-320 Dimension D, but in a compact pedal format. The “Dimension” chorus effect is one where thickness, depth and a sense of width, is added to the sound to produce a kind of 3D effect. It is quit rare and it’s not uncommon to see it go for a lot of money in the used pedal market. There isn’t any way to adjust your sound other than to choose from one of the four presets. The users have never seen this as a problem as all 4 presets produce excellent sounds.

BOSS "SUPER Phaser PH-2" TAIWAN (SOLD)

Boss PH-2 SUPER Phaser

The PH-2 adds an effect similar to that of a rotary speaker. With a phase shift circuit that provides twelve stages of adjustment for smooth, professional-sounding phasing. Two modes give you completely different tonal characteristics: one for a standard effect, and the other for a deep, rich phased effect ideal for a funky guitar sound.

With Rate you adjust the rate tempo of the phase oscillation or frequency sweep. Depth controls the amount of phase effected signal that is mixed with the direct signal. This can be seen as the width of the sweep. Resonance (Res) controls the amount of phased signal to be resent back in with the dry signal to be re-phased. This is the feedback level. Mode selects between phaser mode 1 or 2. Choose Mode I for a more mellow, broad phase effect. Switch it into Mode 2 for a more in-your-face phase attack.

BOSS "CE-2 originals of 80s"(SOLD)

Boss CE-2 Chorus

The CE-2 was the first compact pedal chorus from Boss. The CE-1 was released 1976 and contained the exact same circuit as the Roland Jazz Chorus JC-120 Amp. The CE-2 builds on the legacy of the CE-1 but isn’t identical. The middle region is boosted in the CE-2 compared to the CE-1. According to the design engineers this may be because the CE-1 had a lower input impedance.

Roland says that they stopped marketing the CE-2 November 1982. The pedal was however still produced and sold at least out 1990. The label changed from black to green 1984. The CE-2 was produced in Japan up until 1988 when production moved to Taiwan.

Version differences

• The CE-2 exists in both silver screw and black screw versions.
• The font used on the “Chorus” label is wider on some versions. This results in the C in CE-2 to be located under the r in Chorus on the earliest models while it later ended up under the u.
• The circuit has gone through some minor changes but nothing significant. All MIJ CE-2s are designed around the MN3007 BBD using MN3101 clock driver.
